5 Signs Your Hotel Website Is Losing You Bookings

A guest finds your website, looks around for a few seconds, and decides whether to trust you — long before they ever send a message. Here are five common, easy-to-miss signs that your site might be quietly turning guests away.

1. Your booking button doesn't actually work

It sounds obvious, but it's one of the most common issues we see — a "Book Now" button that scrolls to nowhere, opens a blank page, or just doesn't respond. If a guest can't figure out how to book within a few seconds, most won't message you to ask. They'll simply move on to the next result.

2. Your browser shows a security warning

If visitors see "Not Secure" next to your web address, that's an immediate red flag — even if the rest of your site is fine. This usually means your SSL certificate has expired or was never set up. It's a quick fix, but an easy one to overlook if no one's checking.

3. Booking runs entirely through someone else's platform

Some hotels don't have their own website at all — booking happens entirely through a third-party aggregator site. The problem: those platforms often promote other hotels right on the same page, sometimes redirecting your own guests to a competitor before they finish booking with you.

4. The design hasn't changed in years

A dated design doesn't necessarily mean bad service — but guests don't know that. Fairly or not, an outdated-looking website often reads as a signal that the business itself might be outdated too. First impressions form fast, and they're hard to undo once a guest has already scrolled past.

5. There's no way to reach you besides a slow contact form or email

Most guests today expect to ask a quick question and get a quick answer — usually through Messenger, not a contact form that sits unread in an inbox for hours. If your only booking channel is email, you're likely losing guests who simply expect a faster response.

The good news

Every one of these is fixable — usually faster and more affordably than most hotel owners expect. None of them require rebuilding your entire online presence from scratch; they just require someone to actually look.
